Puppy Mill Rescue

On September 19, 2009, PPRA, along with two other rescues, participated in helping rescue 24 pugs from a puppy mill.  PPRA took in 10 dogs.  The three rescue organizations paid for supposed medical care of the dogs that were coming into their rescues.  Before the dogs got to PPRA, we had paid out over $3000 for medical care and transportation.

Much to our surprise, the dogs were not given the medical attention we originally through (and paid for)  Many of the dogs came infested with fleas even though we had paid for flea/tick medication.  Some had tape worms, despite us paying for deworming.  The dogs who were supposed to have dentals, did not.  Pugs who were supposed to be spayed/neutered, were not. Worse, we were sent a very sick puglet.  He had sarcoptic mange and half of his rectum was sewn shut.  When he got to the vet, he said it was worse of the worst cases of sarcoptic mange he had ever seen and worse, the pug was septic.  He had to put the pug down.  We in PPRA were devastated!

This is the first time "ever" that this has happened to our organization.  We have helped many puppy mill puglets before but have never paid for care/procedures that were not completed as stated.  To date, we still cannot get confirmation of procedures from the people we worked with.

These puppas are out of the mills and receiving the medical care and love they all need and deserve.  We are so grateful to have helped these puppas.  Some of these pugs are being placed into their new homes.  We are hoping to recoup the monies we have paid out to help these pugs so we can continue to help more pugs in need.  Any/all donations will be greatly appreciated!!
